If you look at the entire country that is true, but if you look at the eastern 1/3 of the US things are on more similar footing.

Notice that a good 1/3 of the US is essentially empty. If you would discount those areas, then things clear up why people living in the eastern 1/3 of the US are so upset by being poorly served(relative to Japan).
Edit: If you look here: »www.kddi.com/english/dion/connec···one.html
You will see a Japanese 100Mbps (symmetrical) internet connection plus phone for about $45. In St Louis I pay $60 for a 5meg/512 connection (my only option) without phone. |

However, smaller countries have been able to trump us with their infrastructure |

You have got to be kidding right? China would love to get rid of the internet all together, instead they restrict it to its now current state, near dialup. -- BlockNews.Net- Quality Usenet Block And Unlimited Accounts |

A great percentage of that central third does not have any HSI (excluding sat), so how are they slowing deployment? Nobody is deploying to them and for the most part they understand and accept that. But it is nowhere near a reasonable excuse for not rolling out real HSI (20/20 min) in metro areas. |
