Re: Heads up some Seagate 7200.11 shipped with bad firmware

I just used imgburn to burn the iso and had no problem what so ever flashing.

They were not recalled because only a small percentage with that firmware had the issue. I would say if you cant get it flashed with your cd try to get your hands on a floppy drive and if that fails then rma it. Is the drive running fine besides the cache issue?

-EDIT- Did you remove all other drives? After you run flash it scans for drives and if you another hard drive it could cause it to hang.

For curiosity sake I burn in a newly downloaded AD14 and burn it in with imgburn. After booking from the CD and running flash.bat still just sits there with "attemping to load AD14ALL.lod" on the screen. Note:Using Seagates procedure outline in the readme file.

to answer your recall question.in the computer industry it doesnt work that way unless its a mechanical issue in this case with this hard drive its not,its a firmware relate that can be update from a person home and all future hard drives of this model will come standard with this firm ware.

my question to you is even if you have the old firmware you may not need to update.update is only needed if the incorrect model number was showing up in the bios and seatools.like me i have the 500gig 32mb drive that has SD04 firmware but show correctly in bios and performs as should

Model numbers

1000 GB
ST31000340AS

750 GB
ST3750330AS

500 GB
ST3500320AS

drive shows as a st3500820as. all software shows 8 meg cache. Label say ST3500320AS. When I worked in manufacturing we QA/QC the product in multiple environments to catch these type of issues. I won't have a problem with the solution if it worked in ALL cases. When u got time look at ALL the files on the ISO...I was amazed. On a lighter note, try ImageBurn....simple but nice and effective....thnks. Good freeware! If u got time check out K3b which is open source.
