| reply to mbkowns Well, I talked to Charter Corporations about another problem I had and he told me they have to make sure everything works before they begin the rollout. However, he told me the package prices are almost in affect. He lowered my 10 meg price to 5 meg price (said he wasn't supposed to yet, but he did.) still getting 10 meg though. But once it kicks in I will have to upgrade to 16 meg. He said in my area Carson City, NV it should be within a month or 2 because he can see the package prices already.
Hope this helps. By the way, I WANT MY 16 MEG!!!! LOL |

| reply to mbkowns We don't even have 5MB service yet. I was told back in October by a tech that we would get it in November. Then they said Dec, when I called in Dec the rep told me that all 3MB service was going away the first of the year and everyone would be at 5MB. I called after the 1st, now it's February. The funny thing is when I went to the local office a couple of weeks ago the girl said maybe we would be getting it in April, how's that for customer service? So in conclusion, GOOD LUCK with the 16MB service!! |

| reply to kommander said by kommander :what is a better speed test site, and why isn't speedtest.net a good one? The key is to try at least two (or even three) sites that are usually not overrun with tests if you suspect an issue with your line. I don't think any single speed test is 100% valid 365-24/7.
I've seen some issues with my line not being fully there lately during busy hours as well but it's always above 5mbps.
speedtest.charter.com speakeasy.net/speedtest
Basically you want to test on-network if you can and that will likely yield more consistent results than off-network site testing even if the Charter site is far away, for example. |

| speedtests are lame.. go connect to a ftp from a fast server and upload and download large files. Then you will see the actual speed your getting. Also try several known good servers and see what your results are. -- - MBK (AIM = IllMBKllI) |

2 edits | reply to mbkowns This will get deployed in areas where there is competiton. Most likey FIOS areas. Keller TX should just be the poster child for Charter now.
The rest of the nation will see this probably in late 08, early 09 if that. What I don't get is why the hell does Charter keep doing shitty ass upgrades??? How about this..offer 10meg like you did 1 year ago. Then, listen, really listen to this. Instead of patchworking the shitcan stringboxes you have connecting us, rework the infrastructure to do a "what the shit???!!!"" upgrade! Meaning, while upgrading your network, let the hype machine build that we are going from 10meg to 25meg. And when the system is ready, it will take some time but beleive us Charter, we'll wait like a dog for its master when the hype machine in building, roll out a 40 meg tier. Everyone will be like "holy shit whatttt?? This is Charter? Then continue smack laying with kick ass upgrades from the network that was built. Don't do shit bag upgrades and patch the old jeans. Charter is playing catchup. All the time.
The money is not rolling in right now and hasn't been. Hmmm. They need to seriously TAKE OUT the dead wood. There is still a ton in it. I know. Personally. I can keep talking but really? Is it worth it?
And the best part is...I really do like my 10 meg. I have been here 7 years. I am not leaving. Unless I move to FIOS, which I was supposed to, but didn't. Even if I get FIOS, I will never leave this forum because deep inside I want Charter to pimp slap the rest. It's a messed up relationship. No doubt. |

| reply to mbkowns The only thing with your logic, there, is that charter can't spend money it doesnt have, and their debt is so high they can't exactly borrow a lot either.
They have to do what they can within the constraints that they have. I think 16/2 is a great upgrade from 10/1. You get a 60% boost in download speed and a 100% boost in upload speed.
And from what I've been hearing, the nationwide rollout is going to be rather soon, it's not going to be just a patchwork upgrade. I might eat my words on this, but I think Feb 1 might be the day most of charter's areas light up with the new 16meg tier. |

| reply to jarablue said by jarablue : Keller TX should just be the poster child for Charter now. Should be, but isn't. I've had 16/2 for a few months now. I haven't seen more than 11-12 for the past month and am consistently in the 9-10 range. Calling support doesn't help, calling billing to ask for credit for piss-poor service doesn't help, and writing their CEO only helps for about a month or so. Charter's in over their head trying to deliver on advertised speeds. |
