| reply to ozi Re: Why my internet sucks?
said by ozi :but I wasnt having any of these problems about a month ago. My internet was blazing fast, few hops, etc. and now its just bleeeeh wtf. Stuff breaks. Its an odd conversation to keep having with people every day.
"In May when I downgraded to 6mb my speeds dropped horribly! I then went back to 8mb and they didnt get any better!! FIX IT!"
Speed test cant even start, web pages painfully slow. After 5 mins of troublehshooting install a USB to Ethernet. Perfect speeds.
"How did my NIC go bad when I changed speeds?" "Just a coincidence. One isnt related to the other.." as I eye the Dell Deminsion 3000, the same exact desktop I have.. with a bad NIC myself.. "But my computer is only a year and a half old!" "And?...."
Crap happens. Stuff breaks. If it didnt then a tech coming out to run a new drop that seemingly has nothing wrong with it wouldnt fix an issue. A tech removing the splitter you JUST INSTALLED with another and having the problem be fixed wouldnt happen. An amp on the mainline wouldnt need to be adjusted because it just WIGGED OUT for no reason.
its like a tech showing up to your house for an issue and saying "I can troubleshoot all day.. but I wont. I know we havent changed anything in this area. Based on that Im sure nothing is wrong on our end..." -- CableTechs.org/"Horrible People with Integrity" |

| reply to ozi said by ozi :so how does any of this help to fix my internet problem? Hopefully it will motivate you to either have a service tech come out or swap out the modem. SB4100.. SOS. Swap On Site.
The hops have nothing to do with anything. Your getting 10% packet loss at your home, in the last leg. Hell, that 10% could be your modem for all we know.
You can always keep posting that the issue is still there and youve done nothing to change anything so it isnt on your end.. But again, things go bad. The issue is still there. Call a tech. Swap your modem. Otherwise whats the point. -- CableTechs.org/"Horrible People with Integrity" |

My Download speeds dramatically increased. But my internet surfing speeds did not, and my tracert is still the same. It seems to be in germantown hub, and also in the connect to level3.com 40MS to level3.com?

Try pinging and tracing to your assigned DNS servers, or changing them to alternate publically accessible ones. |

| reply to ozi I just had some severe problems with my internet but finally figured out the problem. Since you're using a router I assume you have more than one computer hooked up.
If that's the case, make sure that your computers are connected correctly. If you're using Windows then go to My Network and click on Set Up Home Network on the left side.
Keep clicking next until you the wizard asks how you're connecting to the internet and choose the second radio button, through a gateway or something to that effect. Keep clicking next, supplying windows with your preferences and settings and finish the wizard. Run that on both computers and it might help.
Not sure if that's your problem, but it fixed my network. I went from no network and nearly no connection to my router's setup screen to my preferred 9.4/1.5mb connection |

| reply to ozi You have a problem with 40ms from Chicago, Illinois to Dallas, Texas? I pulled up a Google Earth view of Chicago-to-Dallas; at the scale of the display, the measure is 7 inches on my screen. Shifting the view, without changing the scale, San José, California to Seattle, Washington is also about 7 inches. And I appear to be about 40ms from Seattle.
