When it comes to the "big three" free anti-virus software, detection rate tests usually have it as

1. AntiVir
2. Avast
3. AVG

and yet, AVG still almost always comes out on top in terms of usage and is obviously the most well known out of the three. I wonder why that is.

NIS 2007
Came pre-installed on my new comp and I decided to keep it.

On my backup-box I use Antivir at the moment.

NAV 2006 on 2 XP computers
NAV 2007 on 3 XP computers and 1 Vista computer
Sister received 2 (woohoo...a windfall ) copies of NIS with her new computer. I'll get her second copy and install it on my second Vista computer.

Good job on the poll, Hutch See Profile.

I run AVG Free and AntiVir, both in the active mode on my 5 XP Pro boxes and ClamAV on the 5 Linux Distros I use. AntiVir is what's on my Vista Laptop and the 2K one's running naked for now.

I use BitDefender to scan my main XP box about once a month, plus I also use the Dr.Web FF extension when I'm visiting an unknown/untrusted site.

AVG Professional is what's running on the server, but only because it was free and the server has just been added to the mix, so I used what I could afford at that moment.

I use symantec enterprise 10 only because my university provides it free with updates. Plus its one of the few I could get to fully work on xp x64

Voted for Avira and AVG.

On my main machine, I currently use Avira Personal Edition Premium on a free promotional 6 month licence but will probably go back to the free version in March when it expires. Two other desktops here have AVG pro on a one-year free promotional license which expires in December. These were upgraded from AVG free and will probably revert to that when the current deal expires. One laptop still has AVG free on it. I also put AVG free on my kid's computer.

In the past I used AOL's "AVS" based on KAV. I thought it was great until I discovered that it permanently affected CHKDSK operations even after it was supposedly uninstalled. It is no longer supported or available.

In the past I also tried the very popular Avast! but prefer Avira for it's better detection rates on my main machine, and AVG on machines used by friends and family because of its ease to set up and maintain; and because of its stability. I also prefer it on low-end computers because it slows down performance less than any other AV in my experience.

AVG no problems always solid on desktops and laptops.

I may switch though...
If they pull that little update stunt again that launches FF and takes me their page.

Using Avast! Home on all four pc's with Comodo firewall. Seems to be a good combo, runs nice and smooth on them all with no slow-downs.
