| Definition, please: qualm?
We just had the Comcast tech out because we had an area wide problem; the node in front of our house got worked on, and then we lost signal to our cable modem and MSNBC.
The guy replaced some of our ancient connectors and splitters. When my husband asked why we would lose just one channel (we are video/networking dummies), the tech (southern accent, so I had a hard time understanding anyway) said something about our connectors causing us to lose a "qualm" that that channel was on, due to lousy connection. It sounded like "qualm."
What is a "qualm?" Is there a term that sounds like that, in fiber/cable wiring terminology? |

| Tech probably said QAM Quadrature amplitude modulation.
This is the method Cable companies use to modulate digital TV signals. It allows them to deliver multiple programs over a single 6 MHz channel. Due to difference in over-the-air and cable transmission characteristics this is different then broadcast TV.
