Tech probably said QAM Quadrature amplitude modulation.

This is the method Cable companies use to modulate digital TV signals. It allows them to deliver multiple programs over a single 6 MHz channel. Due to difference in over-the-air and cable transmission characteristics this is different then broadcast TV.
