1 edit | [CATV] New prices what are your plans With the ridiculous price increases, i have decided i am canceling HBO and Stars. Whoever the genius at comcast though a near 100% increase in price, wouldn't make people upset, and cheap is beyond me. Whats ever better is that Patriot Phone is still expensive. I can use truphone, and Gizmo for almost nothing. There are going to alot of new Fios customers |

 | Well, that sounds like a familiar rant...of course, it was me a year ago and I got labeled a troll.
FiOS is far superior to Patriot on all counts but they've fallen behind DirecTV for video (at least if you're into HD or sports). |

 | reply to DaveDude Looks like Patriot Media continues on with a management contract. It's easy to see why. Patriot offers a weaker channel lineup at a higher price than almost every other cable operator, including Comcast. People in Princeton are lucky in that they have a choice of switching to Verizon's fiber system. Here in Hunterdon, Patriot provides an even weaker lineup than they do in Princeton and aside from Satellite face limited competition from the phone company. The probability of Embarq offering anything approaching Verizon Fios is exactly zero. Believe me, if I had the option of switching to Fios I would do so in a heart beat. |

Hound7 join:2006-03-08 Princeton, NJ | reply to DaveDude My plans are to keep Verizon Fios as my main TV provider and use Patriot Media for MLB EI as long as the MLB HD channel is provided again in 2008. It was disappointing that Comcast did not add TeamHD for NBA League pass this season. However, I am still evaluating Directv because Directv issued a press release last year that it would provide MLB EI more or less in HD in 2008, and just as importantly, Directv is now providing MSG HD and FSNY HD.
From a strategic marketing sense, it just blows my mind that Patriot Media does not provide MSG HD and FSNY HD. When is Patriot Media going to step up and meet the competition? Neither channel is available on Verizon Fios. Comcast COO Stephen Burke said that Comcast provides all local sports(RSNs) in HD. Well Patriot Media must be the only Comcast system that does not provide all RSNs in HD. The Devils are New Jersey's team and are in first place in the Atlantic division and second place in the Eastern Conference. The Patriot Media footprint is right smack in the middle of the Devils territory.
Yet Patriot Media is still the most expensive TV option of the four TV competitors when everything is added in, and the HD channel lineup is limited with no HD MSG or HD FSNY. HBO and Starz are much less expensive on the other three providers (Directv, Dish Network and Fios). Now maybe Comcast/Patriot Media is factoring in HD on Demand to the price, and justify HD on Demand as the reason (Cablevision charges for about $5 per channel for On Demand). To me HD on Demand is not worth the extra money because I have two Fios HD DVRs, two Dish HD DVRs, and two Sony HD DVRs, so I record anything that I want to watch, and I am not in to archiving recorded shows. However, to some subs, HD On Demand for HBO and Starz may be important and worth the extra money that Patriot Media is charging. |

Hound7 join:2006-03-08 Princeton, NJ | reply to DaveDude I ordered Directv today primarily because of MSG HD, FSNY HD and Directv's claim that it would offer all of MLB EI in HD this year. However, I am not going to cancel Comcast/Patriot Media. I will still keep it as a secondary service, and I will also get MLB EI from Patriot as long as the MLB HD channel is offered(I'll have MLB EI from two sources and compare).
It is just unbelievable that Patriot did not provide MSG HD and FSNY HD with this new round of HD channels. Reminds me of CSN Philadelphia in Princeton. Patriot did not offer CSN in Princeton, so Patriot has a lower than normal penetration in Princeton. Then Verizon comes along and offers CSN, then Patriot starts offering CSN when all the subs have already left to Verizon or satellite. Same thing with MSG HD and FSNY HD. Subs that were waiting for those channels jumping to Directv. Brian Roberts and Stephen Burke go around babbling that Comcast offers HD RSNs in all markets. Maybe they are unaware, but Comcast does not offer all HD RSNs in the old Patriot Media market. There is no excuse for not providing New Jersey's ice hockey team in HD. |
