See here for a brief overview: »Re: How can I get FIOS cheaply? (e.g., STB configurations)
The service is definitely faster and more reliable. I had the 6.0/768 SE plan. I actually got maybe 5.0/640. With the FIOS 5.0/1.0, I get about 5.2/1.2, which is obviously much better, especially considering the cost.
The final straw for cutting the SE connection was trying to watch TV shows online (NBC.com, etc). The consistently stopped at various points, apparently long enough for the website player to figure the connection was lost and restart the show. That hasn't happened once since switching to VZ. It *could* have been my router, but considering the cost savings, it wasn't worth troubleshooting.
I do miss my home hosting. It was nice to be able to RDP to my home computers, as well as have a few local websites. No huge loss, and I could always work around the FIOS dynamic DNS with something like the DynDNS service - but just haven't had the time to worry about it.
Phone and TV have generally been fine. We don't have any movie subscriptions (HBO, etc) so their VOD is *definitely* inferior to Comcast, but no biggie. The PQ is indeed excellent.
So the only real complaint is the billing. Will see how long that takes to resolve. KM |
