| [General] fiber connectivity
I have a fiber run that was installed, about 500ft long. I have terminated the ends of the run. I can get light to go across the fiber run but no connectivity when i hook up a dell switch to it. I did get a connection for like 15 min was able to get on internet over the fiber but now I can get anything out of it.
Would love someone to point in right direction on where to find the fault. Point me in the right direction please. |

Washington, OK | maybe too much loss in 1 of the connector? Are you using singlemode or multimode fiber? Same for the connectors? You need to see what the loss of the fiber run between connectors is. |

If you use a red light to check connectivity, just remember that a red light will go though a bad splice/connector for a short distance. The connector could be bad on either side of the LGX/patch panel. You might also have a bad jumper. Problems are usually at the end of the boot of the connector where the fiber comes out.

Replaced ends on one side of the connections and bingo it was lighting up on the switches. I did a loss test and one leg of the fiber I was lossing 33 percent of the signal strenght, replaced those ends and it went on line. Not experience in this so figure if the light went through then by golly the signal should be as well, we learn something new every day ;P.
I was using adhisive ends on the connectors, switched over to universal splice with ST pig connectors and that helped the strenght as well. |
