Thanks for the feedback. If you have the time, a brief description of what you had to do would be useful for folks who follow you here. That's how these forums work. -- Cheers, Chuck MS-MVP 2005-2007 [Windows - Networking] PChuck's Network |

Is the desktop computer already used to share files? If not, you'll want to run the Network Setup Wizard on the desktop computer, and selectThis computer connects to the Internet through another computer on my network or through a residential gateway. That's the equivalent of saying that your Vista computer is connected to a "Private" network, plus the wizard itself loads the proper services to allow file and printer sharing. »nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/u···ATClient
Then make sure that you have the up to date drivers for the XP desktop, and for the Vista laptop. And follow instructions provided by the printer vendor.
If you have problems getting the printer to work under Vista, try an alternative process of setting the Vista client up. »nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2007/06/n···sta.html -- Cheers, Chuck MS-MVP 2005-2007 [Windows - Networking] PChuck's Network |

| reply to cargret17 You'll need to set up printer sharing (the title of thread is so misleading >_> )
On your desktop, go to Start > Control Panel > Printers Right click on your printer and choose "Sharing" from the list. Place a check mark for "Share this printer" and type in a share name. Apply the settings.
Now the fun part. Since I don't know what version of windows your running on your Desktop I'm going to assume it's XP and if that's the case then more then likely it doesn't store Vista drivers either, so now you'll have to go to the printer's manufacturer's web site and find your printer drivers for vista (if they even released one for your printer), install the drivers, and during the install it should ask how the printer is connected, in which case you'll just choose Network and it'll ask you to browse to your printer, find your printer on the network and follow the rest of the progress.
If the installer of the drivers doesn't do the whole networking part for you, then go to Start (the orb thing) > Control Panel > Printers > Add A Printer > A Networked, Wireless, (whatever) (it's the second option you want) > let it scan for your printer and choose it from the list. It'll present you with a whole list of different brands, find your brand and choose the modem or series, finish the rest of the progress and you're done.
Cheers. |
