Just downloaded and installed hnFAPMon and it shows no activity at all. How to I jump start this thing? Vista and 7000s port 6000 open.
Edit: Got it "working" by installing the update, but I am confused by "monitor" and "client". I only installed one app hnFAPMonSetup_V4_5_4.exe. Where is the "client" part of this? And do I install hnFAPMonSetup_V4_5_4.exe on each computer that is being used on this Hughes Net modem??
Is there a separate client to install...did not see it at SourceForge? |

| said by millham :12) I have several systems. How do I install hnFAPMon? Choose one system as the master. The master should be the system that is on most of the time. On that system, install the hnFAPMon Service and Client. On all other systems, only install the Client. Do not install the Service on more than one system! You will get strange readings in the client When YOU ran the install, the option was there for installing client or service. When YOU run the install on other computers make sure you do not install the service on them.

| reply to millham I read the FAQ and this thread and thought I'd done everything right, but after an hour or so still had only SS in the clients and no other info.
I've since discovered that I likely changed the modem defs (.pm) file for my DW6000 while the hnFAPMon service was running, because I re-installed and this time said "don't run first" which is the default.
In any case, if anyone else has trouble perhaps a simple Stop and Start of the hnFAPMon service (using services.msc in XP) might do the trick! -- DW6000CEv5.4.1.11, G13/H1@127W, 1270MHz, SigTyp74, 10-20clients & 6+OSes |

| reply to millham Can some one tell me what I"m doing wrong with hnfapmon?
Can someone tell me what I"m doing wrong? I installed the program and the modem def exe, changed the default line in the 6000 modem to 66...and I can't get the program to work. Specifically: 1. in the system try, the icon has a red flashing circle/bar over it 2. the graphical popup just shows ??? for Tx, etc (as if it can't see the modem) 3. The control panel does not come up (when I click on it, or try to run the exe directly, nothing at all happens).
I tried uninstalling and installing over. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| You will have to put in the firmware version and the command number in the pm file. After an uninstall delete also the HNFapMon folder in the program files before a new install.

| reply to millham Stand By not working with hnFAPMon ?
When running fapmon my laptop refuses to go into Stand By mode and I have to do a cold start. The eventviewer shows me the following error:
""hnFAPMonModules::hnFAPMonCalc::getPage: »192.168.0.1/cgi/execAdvCom.bin?Command=71: 500 Server closed connection without sending any data back""
Once I uninstall FapMon, going into Stand By works.
Any idea? Thanks. -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1390/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro/Toughbook CF-28 xp pro |

@Raminto, but isn't it the case that Standby mode for your laptop is a mode where the laptop's CPU isn't doing anything? Standard hnFAPmon service op requires it be talking constantly to the modem. -- DW6000CEv5.4.1.11, G13/H1@127W, 1270MHz, SigTyp74, 10-20clients & 6+OSes |

| reply to Raminto Re: Stand By not working with hnFAPMon ?
I have hnFapMon running on my laptop for at least one year and did not have the problem. It just started a couple weeks ago. Here is what happens: When I want to go in StandBy by closing the lid or with >Start>Turn Off Computer>Stand By, the blue screen comes up saying:"Preparing for Stand By....." and freezes there until I press the power button for a few seconds to shut down the computer. At the next start up windows is checking files and folder for consistency before the laptop is starting up. The consistency check result: No problem found.
So I uninstalled fapmon and everything was fine. I also reinstalled it, and after a while the problem was here again. Here again the error from the eventviewer: ""hnFAPMonModules::hnFAPMonCalc::getPage: »192.168.0.1/cgi/execAdvCom.bin?Command=71: 500 Server closed connection without sending any data back"" -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1390/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro/Toughbook CF-28 xp pro |

Sounds like maybe some Windows update, or other program you installed, has created a conflict for you. Can you do a System Restore to a date prior to when this stopped working, and see if the problem goes away? -- DW6000CEv5.4.1.11, G13/H1@127W, 1270MHz, SigTyp74, 10-20clients & 6+OSes |

| Yes I was thinking of this too. I did a restore to an earlier date and it was working again, but only for a day or two. Also when I re-install fapmon the StandBy is working, but again only for a limited time. I hate doing a complete restore so I just try not to use the StandBy mode. But if someone can think of anything else I will try it Thanks__Raminto -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1390/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro/Toughbook CF-28 xp pro |

| For my laptop: Closing the lid is the same as stand by. When I close it and open it later I see the blue screen with: Preparing to StanddBy and I have to do a cold start (see above). -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1390/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro/Toughbook CF-28 xp pro |

| reply to millham Re: Lets create an FAQ for hnFAPMon
Moderator and/or Brian : I have a general suggestion for this thread:
Problem:
It started out as a discussion about what a stickied FAQ might include... then sort of vaguely turned into the actual FAQ but with no editing or anything, it's not at all clear.
Then, inevitably, it's become a troubleshooting thread.
This makes it fairly ineffective as any one of the three things.
Solution:
Rework this into two new threads, with one or both stickied:
1) hnFAPMon FAQ. Can use suggestions from the beginning of this thread and make it simple or more complete, but clear and concise in any case. Every program needs one and this is the place to do it.
Lock it to all but Brian or whoever is the OP.
Definitely include the questions: "Fapmon is not working - what do I do? and "What are the current numbers I need to have in my modem defs? Go here: xxxx
This way people can go to the thread and actual find the info without sorting through a bunch of (often repetitive) dialogue and noise.
2) A thread called "Troubleshooting hnFAPMon". This can be the place for the dialogue. Periodically, as new problems/solutions are found, they can be added in a concise form to the FAQ.
The troubleshooting thread could be stickied or if not, then a permanent link within the FAQ could be made. Call it "what if my problem is not discussed here?" - Go to: xxx thread.
As always, appreciate everybody's help here. Thanks Brian!
Cheers, Steve |
