When the SNES came out in 1990, it was $200, considering minimum wage has almost DOUBLED since then what does that say about the price of consoles? Interestingly, in 1985, the NES also cost $200, and years later, the N64 was released for $200. All those came with a single controller and a single game, just like the base system does today.

The prices haven't gone up, you're just discovering how much your parents spent on you when you were a kid.
The Intellivison cost $300 in 1980. That's like $700 today. And people gripe about the PS3. The averge income in 1980 was $15,000 a year.

Eh, thats going to cost then, wonder what the price tag on that is.

Being a gamer is becoming ever so damn expensive. Seems to me like the console makers are forgetting who their target is.
Exactly. Somewhat off topic, but when I bought my 360 I did not have a HDTV. I was kind of pissed when a good portion of the writing on some games was unreadable.
LOL... I have the same beef with my PS3
That sucks! I can say that the issue went away after the upgrade to a HDTV.

Simple. The same way the current set top boxes get their video...through the ethernet port to the network...Or you could use an HPNA3 to ethernet bridge and run your 360 off of the phone line or coax line, either way will still work. Network does not always mean internet. You can have a network connection without it going to the internet. It really isn't that difficult to understand, the 360 will be just like an IPTV set top box.

AT&T's U-verse video never once touches the internet. It is all kept on their private network. The only thing on U-verse that touches the internet is the actual internet. U-verse video uses the Internet Protocol, but is never actually put on the internet. Think of it as more of an intranet.

Edit: Fixed a grammar error.

No itt's not. IPTV is not internet TV.
You need the internet for it to work. what does the i stand for in IPTV then?
No, you don't. IP = Internet Protocol, but you don't need to access the internet for IPTV to work.

You think AT&T is transmitting their IPTV across the internet?
How is the 360 going to connect unless you make a usb device for it. See what im getting at here. There is no other connections right now besides internet to the 360.

No i know at&t is not transmitting across the net.

We have 3 TVs in a 3 person household (mom, dad, son), and its still an issue - dad has to send mom to the bedroom to watch TV while dad gets his 360 fix

Having everything on the same box, you might have to choose between watching/recording a show or movie, or playing that game.
Then, for family's, mom or dad wants to watch their shows, or let the kids play a game

You have to have an IPTV infrastructure in place.

In the US this means AT&T or a local independant who runs MS Mediaroom.

The bits are streamed outside of the "internet" part of the connection. It's IP...TV and not I...PTV.

You misunderstand the model. BT already sell IPTV-over-VDSL in a similar way to AT&T do with U-Verse. This deal allows Xbox 360 owners to use the Xbox as the STB rather than needing a separate STB.

Not only that, but US IPTV like that would be a ways off and with cable providers moving forward with SDV and later DOCSIS 3 a lot of the BW crunch would be lifted.
