You gotta be kidding me! [rant..beware!]

RRoD STB?

The British repair depots have already stated "no more xbox service until the bloody thing's re-engineered to NOT fail".

You want a hairdryer for a set top box?
Or the horrible blade navigation? (since last update, it is still a dog and awkward to play, let alone configure...ask a parent).

No thanks. My MotoHD STB is fine. Quieter. And works after being on constantly for 14 months...try that with a 360.

I have to agree with you there. I love the whole idea of it, but it's the wrong piece of hardware to pull off with the type of reliability that end users demand on tv service equipment.

Both my 360s have been running for a year. Can't say that about one of my Motorola DVRs.

You're getting close to RROD time. Both of my 360s lasted about 14 months before they crapped out. I had a Tivo unit last me about 5 years before it finally died.

::shrug:: I personally like the blade navigation. It's quick and easy to use.

Also, the 360 and your MotoHD box likely cost about the same, but now the IPTV provider can entice people with the prospect of being able to play games.

DVR's and STB's are not quite the same thing.
My DTV STB never goes out unless the power does.

The 360 is definitely a bit loud - I think its fine for gaming (but the loud CD drive takes some getting used to - not that loud otherwise), but yeah, I wouldn't use it as a set top box. And for the same reason, I wouldn't use it with the HD DVD add on for my HD viewing, vs. a standalone player (and now with the Warner announcement, I'm firmly on the sidelines until more dust clears - had an A3 in my amazon shopping cart last week, but fortunately didn't pull the trigger).

From personal experience I had two 360s fail on me and I'm not a hardcore gamer. It's too power hungry and noisy to be a set top box. But it sounds great on paper.

The IPTV interface won't use the blade interface. It will be customized for your provider, but will be based on the mediaroom interface: »www.microsoftmediaroom.com

The blade interface will still be used for existing 360 functions (gaming, friends list, etc), but for the TV part it will use the mediaroom interface.

Wow, the MediaRoom interface is bad ass. I like it.

Actually, I do get out a lot which is why I can't identify every MS interface on sight.

The interface is still very slick. Better than anything I've seen so far, including the Tivo interface.
