Comcast Corp on Tuesday launched Fancast.com, a one-stop movie-television hub where viewers can watch more than 3,000 hours of TV shows, movie trailers and short videos, check show listings, and dive into a comprehensive actor database.
The Web site by the largest U.S. cable operator will also point fans to where they can watch any show, be it on television, online, On Demand, DVD or in theaters.
The site is the first to gather film and TV offerings scattered all over the Internet on such a large scale, thanks to agreements with content owners such as CBS Corp, Viacom Inc and Hulu.com, which is owned by NBC Universal and News Corp's Fox Network. You can watch a ton of free TV series online. Here is the link: »www.fancast.com/full_episodes
I especially liked to see they have WKRP in Cincinatti with Bailey Quarters: »www.fancast.com/tv/WKRP-in-Cinci···w/videos -- Internet News My BLOG My Web Page |

| reply to TKJunkMail This is what I'm interested in.. I don't think I'll see 160megs speeds from them in the next few years but I'd like to see at least the 16meg pipe this year.
quote: PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- Cable companies aren't known as nimble innovators, but Comcast Corp. is out to change that perception this year with ultra-high-speed Internet service, more high-definition content and gadgets that link video, phone and broadband services.
"We're about innovation and having the best network," Chief Executive Brian Roberts told The Associated Press in a preview of his speech at the Consumer Electronics show on Tuesday.
Roberts is expected to demonstrate a technology that delivers up to 160 megabits of data per second: It will allow him to download a high-definition copy of "Batman Begins" in four minutes. The technology, DOCSIS 3.0, will start rolling out this year.

| reply to TKJunkMail Host file entry prevented viewing
I couldn't view any of the full episodes at all initially, but I found out why.
I use the host file entries at »www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm to block unwanted ads & spyware sites. I noticed that fancast.com was attempting to download data from comcast.112.2o7.net and the shows would not play. I looked up DNS entries for comcast.112.2o7.net and saw that they were all the same as omniture.112.2o7.net. Commenting out omniture.112.2o7.net from the HOST file allowed the episodes to play. -- Ö¿Ö The Rules of Spam | Maryland's Newest Anti-Spam Law Where are we going? And what's with the hand basket? |

took a quick peek at this.. the video quality is quite poor.
Badly encoded flash video is not my idea of 'watching TV online. If I want badly encoded flash, I'd go to youtube. |

2 edits | reply to TKJunkMail I thought the show lineup looked familiar and then noticed the hulu logo. In my brief comparison, shows through the hulu site are a little smaller in size (height x width) and the image is crisper. hulu has a couple of better options such as full screen and 'Pop Out' but fancast has a better control/progress bar. The hulu one drives me nuts with the way it drops from the top.
It is nice to see companies making content available like this. Now, if they would just up the quality and size...
edit: the size of the videos seems to vary by show. |
