Higher energy prices fueling inflation and pinching wallets

It's no secret that the high energy prices, both in motor fuels and in heating, electricity etc are taking a bite out of people's wallets and driving inflation. Although the inflation numbers seem tame, anyone who buys food regularly in the supermarket can clearly attest to prices climbing.

For the average family, expenses and bills keep shooting up while income is stagnant or receives a small increase, but not enough to cover costs. Most wage earner's pay raises over the past few years won't even pay for half the cost of the increase that ONE tank of gas costs... and then you throw in medical, schooling, etc on top of that.

It's not hard to see why the numbers point to recession, as much as people try to deny it.

Now, given that, I think at&t's problem is they won't give people what they want. They still try and force you to buy POTS, even if you don't want it. Sure they now offer "naked" DSL.... on low speed packages only. And the bundles they offer include things people don't want and leave out things they do.

What at&t needs to do is offer naked DSL on the fastest speed packages, along with cheap VOIP or none, (Consumer choice) and leverage in bundled deals on wireless (again consumer choice) and the good packages from Dish Network (not the low packages, again.)

Basically they need to mix up their offerings and let people buy what they want and need, not what at&t wants them to buy to boost profits. That's why people switch away to cable or other providers.
