| at&t deserves bashing My first at&t bill was $200 and we barely use it since Vonage is our primary line. Our 2nd at&t bill was $100. Here in Northern California, they have invested zip in infrastructure: old brittle wiring, less than a half dozen COs to serve the huge population of Sacramento County. Ridiculous.
It's no wonder that UVerse has so few customers since hardly anyone lives close enough to a CO to get the service. Then, for the DSL customers who want DSL anyway (with the low speeds), they won't take an account that is more than x number of feet from their pitifully few COs. However, once you sign up with DSLExtreme or some other 2nd DSL provider, at&t will start calling you saying they'll now offer you DSL service.
SBC deserves what it's getting (they bought AT&T and renamed it at&t). They tought new products that hardly anyone can get while letting their infrastructure slowly degrade.
They are not true competition for cable, except for the very few people who live within a mile of their few COs so here, Comcast is king: telephone, cable, and HSI. at&t is no competition at all. All they have to do to be competitive is install RTs or more COs so they can actually provide decent service to the MAJORITY of the population. For years now, we've have lies like "Operation Lightspeed" that was suppose to install more RTs. Didn't happen here. |
