The automated system advised me that the upgrade had been completed, the rep told me that it hasn't. She said she could see that it was scheduled for today (8/29) but doesn't know why it hasn't been completed. She ran a few line tests, then placed me on hold to check with another dept. She said they would call me sometime tomorrow, and that I need to call back Tuesday to have the modem re-provisioned? Shouldn't that happen when it is upgraded? ]]></description>

As for the modem, it should resync on it's own as soon as the speed is changed. But if it doesn't, power cycling it of course will show.]]></description>

So Monday I called and put in the change order. Dry-loop and 7.1. The lady said 7.1 was available, put in the order for it and everything would be done Tuesday evening.<br><br>Tuesday - Nothing<br><br>Wednesday - no land line. The dry-loop part seems to be implemented but still at 3mbit dsl. I call for an order status and they tell me that there is no such thing as 7.1 and that I ordered 3mbit. I already had 3mbit - I watned 7.1<br><br>After about 2 hours on the phone talking to tech, billing, sales, back to tech back to billing and then finally to retention I ended up with Dry-loop 3 at $28 a month. Better than the $80 I was paying for local service and dsl.<br><br>I guess 7.1 isn't available in NW Indiana.]]></description>

I was ordering dry loop and the rep asked what speed I wanted. 7.1  with self install was on the list so I said OK. The monthly cost was ~$42.00, IIRC, so I said OK.<br> <br>When she tried to place order, it wanted a $190. fee for tech visit and that could not be over ridden for some reason. She spoke to supervisor who said it is free install with a landline but $190 naked. (She told me that the order was for 7.1mb).  After I received my DSL Modem, I come to find out that my DSL LINE was only provisioned for 3mb.<br><br>Has anyone else had this type of problem with Verizon?<br> </div>That's not unheard of.  The field tech said that my line would technically go up to 10m(if the technology was there) according to the device he was using to test my line.  (I'm about 4600 ft away).  However, the cards in my remote terminal haven't been upgraded to the 7m cards yet, so 3m is what I got (I got it through DSLExtreme, but its a Verizon resold line.)]]></description>

I know Verizon is a big company with complex systems that take time to update but it isn't acceptable for a press release to go out, have your engineering department do the heavy lifting, and then not make the service available.<br><br>Lame.]]></description>

This time, I started with Sales, who told actually told me it is available to me and transferred me to billing to enter the change. Billing then confirms that it's available - I'm in shock. Great news, right? WRONG! The guy comes back on the line and tells me that the system is showing it as available, but it is not allowing him to enter the order. <br><br>All in all, I wasted yet another 20 minutes on the phone with them today. To their credit, the reps were all very courteous and knew what I was asking for. For whatever reason, though, the system just does not want me to get it. :)]]></description>

Two technicians were involved: the first installed a second jack and connected it to my main jack and the other tech tested the line.<br><br>The entire process installation took a little over an hour and I had to reboot my DSL gateway.  My new speed tests at 6.5 down and 690-728 up (depending on which server I test from). Hopefully they're performing an update? Granted, that's not a ton of money but it is more. I also am leary about the installation of Fios. I'm not alone here and I don't want the people I rent to to be forced into Fiber. They say you can keep the copper wire but I don't trust that to be true.]]></description>

However it said that my order couldn't be completed and I should call billing. Billing said there was no 7.1 speed and tried to get me into a fios connection. I tried another number and was told it was not available but I could get fios. They gave me a number for my local office. I called that number and got a women with a heavy accent. Just a guess but possibly from India. I had trouble understanding her but she also said not available. Get Fios.<br>Don't want Fios yet. It's more money. I guess I'll go month to month for a while and see what happens.]]></description>

I didn't try to order it online because I am on a special pricing package with Verizon for my telephone and DSL (called a "Double Freedom Bundle" I think).<br><br>I called the local Verizon office and they confirmed my loop length of 7900 feet qualified my line for the 7.1 service but their computer was not showing it as an option for my line.  The CSR is submitting a discrepancy form and will get back to me in 1-2 days.  The bottom line is that either the online DSL order form is incorrect or the local Verizon office is incorrect.  It seems like one hand at Verizon doesn't know what the other hand is doing!]]></description>

I asked if I could speak to someone with a clue -- someone with with more than a database of addresses.  I was transferred to who knows where and heard a nice recording that if I was calling to establish new service (which I am) that that number cannot assist me.  Whee!<br><br>The press release is quite clear about where in DC has 7mbit available and my address has a loop length of about 3,500 feet from one of the central offices that allegedly has 7mbit.<br><br>Disappointing.  What's more disappointing is having no way to talk to someone with a clue.  I used the Verizon website to send an email and never got a response.  When I did the same with Comcast (not known for customer service) I got a call back from a very knowledgeable person with the information I wanted (release date for HD channels).<br><br>Gah.]]></description>

If so, you sure did the right thing by removing it. Also, check that the PHONE, NOT the modem, has a filter on it. There's probably something that he can do on the pole to improve your stats - switch you to a different pair, remove bridge taps, etc.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/1495369"><b>dscottcooper</b></A> : As to what the tech will do for a 3.0 to 7.1 upgrade...each situation will be different.  In my upgrade, the tech showed up after the 7.1 was turned on and the only thing he did was do some clean up at the pole.  I asked if I needed  the new modem and the homerun and he said as long as my speeds were ok (6800 down and 725 up) then he wouldn't have to do anything in the house.  I'm still using the westell 2200 and it supports the 7.1.  As for the homerun...I'm using the microfilters with no problem.  It also helps that my loop length is only 2200 ft.   ;)]]></description>

It happens where I am. I'm fed out of a remote terminal, and the wires that Verizon ran lead up to the dead edge of 3Mbps service and then stop for the RT I'm on, and then next door, all you can get is 768k because of the line. Lately, Verizon has to run a lot of new lines on my street because of all of the development, but they will be putting FiOS in soon so they'll have to deal with other things too.]]></description>
