The problem with sticking with old tech

Too bad, then, that Verizon hasn't moved to ADSL2+ like other major North American DSL ISPs (Bell, for example) have. That'd bump the 7mbit loop length up to over 10 thousand feet.

They have upgraded to ADSL2+ in a lot of areas. This has caused some headaches with the 3/768 plan though because there have been some people not in ADSL2+ areas provisioned for it as if they were. So then you end up with pissed off people dropping sync saying, "But Verizon said..." I'm glad they are keeping it to fairly short distances right now.

The big reason Verizon is offering this is because the just can't roll out FIOS fast enough for everyone, and in a lot of areas Cables higher speeds are starting to cost them DSL customers. A lot of people have been asking for this for a long time now, ever since the first started trials of it almost 2 years ago.
