Re: Network Solutions holding domains hostage?

checking my registrar service (enom) after that 'first' test returns:

Search Results:
bbrtestsnetworksolutions.com is not available. Make an offer on bbrtestsnetworksolutions.com at Afternic.com.

the nodaddy version:
Search Results:
bbrtesttesttestdaddy.com is not available. etc..

trying bbrimonlytestingthisname.com on enom...
Search Results:
bbrimonlytestingthisname.com is available.

will edit in a bit to see if it got grabbed by netsol, stand by.. (notsol said: Your Domain Name Search Results
Congratulations! The following domains are available
bbrimonlytestingthisname.com)

search on enom again: Search Results:
bbrimonlytestingthisname.com is not available. Make an offer on bbrimonlytestingthisname.com at Afternic.com.

something is VERY fishy here..

I am almost sure that others have been doing this for years...I would go to godaddy, search a term and name, and within a day or two if I didnt buy it then, it was gone.

What did you expect from a free market system? Socialism? Let's just give everyone their first choice for free...first come first served!

Shoot the bastards at Network Solutions with a giant nerf gun.

This happened to me late last week. New client wants me to set up a web site for him. I check Network Solutions WHOIS (as has been my habit for more than a decade - when they had the monopoly on them) and get some choices of names that are available. I email the client. He emails back his choice.

I go to my hosting company and register the domain name. Not available? What? Check Network Solutions again - it says that it is available. Back to my hosting company's site (maybe I mistyped it?) - not available.

Recheck Network Solutions - it is available, but ONLY FROM THEM AT AN INFLATED PRICE. They now own my WHOIS search.

This is so wrong and unethical it is unbelievable.

There has to be an assurance that one's WHOIS search will not be abused in order to gouge the searcher. ICAAN needs to provide a safe WHOIS haven. They could make it part of their registrar's agreements - and they need to.

Network Solutions can rot in hell.

I've suggested that DSLReports set up a Safe Domain Availability Search . . . »We need a Safe Domain Availability Search. I trust DSLR more than anyone else.

Agreed.

Don't forget Internic -USA (Network Solutions, ...)
And ICANN -Austrailia I think?(like Godaddy, PowWeb, ...) means more than one agency to sort out ethical rules
