No matter what the capacity, satellite still is at the bottom of the barrel for a ISP.
Been there done that, weather, equipment failure, FAP, all makes satellite, the very last option. With EVDO and other wifi options, Satellite internet will have to change dramatically, to be a option, customers in the future, will use. |

I've always felt satellite broadband is an incredibly niche market. I would never consider it unless it were my absolute last resort. In fact, I'd go DS1 or ethernet before I'd subscribe to satellite.

Unfortunately for people like my best friend that lives oin the boonies( actually he lives 4 miles from town ) satellite is the ONLY option for broadband. Wireless phone companies don't want to provide EVDO and the like to people like him just like cable and phone companies have no interest in providing cable or DSL internet.
One can only hope that companies like HughesNet and WildBlue will increase speeds( without increasing already ridiculous prices ) and have higher caps. No excuses now for such low speeds and low caps. |
