Think they've been testing the technology for some time, and probably waiting for equipment to be standardized and manufactured. Of course, they could have stopped all FiOS design and installation while waiting for the latest upgrades, making you wait even longer.

The upgrade from BPON to GPON will be soon. Meanwhile, enjoy what you are gonna get.
