Houston "On Demand" upgrade

I have been patiently waiting for Comcast to upgrade the VOD in my area. But my patience is seriously running out. It's now January 9th and all I have is the same abysmal choices that Time Warner offered before they skipped town. So abysmal that I don't even bother with it.

It just blows my mind that Comcast decided to jack up my bill last October, and then partly justify the increase on an expanded VOD lineup that has yet to materialize in my neighborhood. Hey Comcrap, why don't you deliver the goods before you take my damn money!

Does anybody know what is going on?

It's just a big slap in the face to pay so much and look at all the VOD choices on their website and NOT be able to watch 95% of them. Yet another CrApTaStIc move on their part!

Re: Houston "On Demand" upgrade

Didn't they get the Houston area from TimeWarner from the Adelphia switch? They don't even have their own headends setup, do they? Just questions, I could be wrong...

I think so. But Comcast said that it planned to have the VOD upgrades completed by the end of 2007. Well, it's now 2008 and they haven't done anything in the Central Houston area.

I can't say for sure about anything, cause I'm not near the area, but what are you "missing" from vod, just free movies, hd content, or like premium services(hbo/sho/etc)?

I still have no VOD and Comcast took over our system in April 2006. It is supposed to happen this month, but I won't hold my breath.

Well, I called Comcast to ask about a timeline for the upgrade. AS usual with them, they can't commit to a date saying we will do it by this date.
The answer I got from the rep: "We ran into some technical difficulties and just resumed the upgrade process, please continue to check in the next few MONTHS".

Also I wonder when are they going to expand their TIVO interface to the rest of the nation. I live in the Sugar Land area.

UPDATE:

Comcast took over Suscom in my area in April 2006. According to the FAQ on Comcast's page, we would have VOD and other Comcast services in "fall '06". We FINALLY got VOD last week JANUARY 31, 2008. The content is slim, there are no menus. (mapped VOD remote button doesn't work ch 199 nor do we have a menu on ch 1). There are about 10 free movies available, zero HD content other than the pay HD movies. I don't pay for premiums so I don't know what's on them at all.

it will take a while for them to build up the library at the suoper headend in your region. For instance the super headend here is in pittsburgh so that's where most or all of our on-demand content comes from. It took them about 6 - 7 months after it launched to build up the on-demand content. Then we don't get all the on-demand content that pittsburgh gets like on-demand the same day as dvd (they are working on rolling it out slowly in the pittsburgh and denver areas then eventually to the whole nation by august supposedly), and some news and local stuff. Apparently the superheadend can see that I'm in weirton and say to the dct that I only get on-demand content for weirton, somehow.
