a-Band, not Ku-Band. Translation: Higher frequency means wider pipes to stuff more bits through.
However, it does
not mean that you can run your Half-Life 2 server through it. It's parked up in geostationary orbit just like all the other commercial satellites (except Iridium). It's that latency (lag) thing - roughly 1/4 S each direction.
The total pipe size might be 10x, but that doesn't mean each user gets 10x.
The pipe isn't necessarly 10x wider, but they plany on using spot beaming antennas to reuse the same frequencies across different parts of the country
