How is there really going to be any incentive for Verizon to throw out new higher speeds without anything new from the competition?

GPON will be essential if Verizon plans on offering symmetric tiers going forward beyond 30mbit. This is what Docsis 3 threatens to be capable of.. but no isp is committing to faster internet speeds just yet..
