Scum

This doesn't sit right with me. This prevents the consumer from purchasing the domain name at a different provider if he wishes. For instance, if he doesn't like how network solutions is run or finds a cheaper price he can't go somewhere else. Simple solution, don't use network solutions for anything. Don't even search using them. Starve them.

Wow! That is dirty. It's sad but nowadays, I'm not even surprised when a company does something like this. Your suggestion is a pretty good one though.
