Worked pretty well, certainly better than the hour on hold, four phone calls, being hung up on, and only speaking to one real person who couldn't help me that I spent at work trying to order it before coming home to find the ordering through the box worked.

athakur999 : DirecTV allows you to add and remove packages from their website.

They used to allow you to do it at whim and prorated the charge. You could sign up for HBO to watch one show or movie you liked then cancel it afterwards and you'd only get charged for 1 day of service which came out to $0.50 or so. Later on they started enforcing a 1 month minimum but you could still cancel via the website after the month was over.

anon : This maybe old, but I didn't see any other post about it. In N. Texas when I choose a channel that I did not have ordered such as HBO, I now get a interactive box that asks if I would like to purchase HBO via my STB. Very cool to add packages now with out having to call in.
