Re: DD-WRT and repeater Bridge mode

I have three of them working great..
repeater bridge uses same subnet - you have to assign an IP to the bridge LAN address on the same subnet of your AP

give your Virtual WLAN a different SSID than the main WLAN (for ex: DanLan and DanLan-Rpt1)

I used WPA TKIP on both the WLAN dna VWLAN

I used the WIKI pretty much verbatim

Restore Factory Defaults on Secondary(DD-WRT) Router
Connect to the secondary router via wired or wireless client keeping in mind the dd-wrt default settings for dhcp pool and ssid
Open the Wireless -> Basic Settings tab
Wireless Mode : Repeater Bridge
Wireless Network Mode : Match Primary Router
Wireless Network Name(SSID) : Match Primary Router
Wireless Channel : Match Primary Router
Wireless SSID Broadcast : Enable
Network Configuration : Bridged
Save Settings
Virtual Interfaces Section
Add
Wireless Network Name(SSID) : Different from Primary Router
Wireless SSID Broadcast : Enable
AP Isolation : Disable
Network Configuration : Bridged
Save Settings
Open the Setup -> Basic Setup tab
Connection Type : Disabled
IP Address : 192.168.1.2 (Assuming Primary Router IP is 192.168.1.1)
Mask : 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (again assuming Primary Router IP is 192.168.1.1)
Assign WAN Port to Switch : Checked or Unchecked - your choice
Save Settings
Open the Security -> Firewall tab
Uncheck all boxes
Disable SP1 firewall
Save Settings
Open the Status -> Wireless tab [redhawk - If this step is performed the repeater bridge may not work - skip to Step 8]
Wiviz Survey (or Site Survey)
Join Primary Router
Continue
Open the Administration tab
APPLY Settings (In V24 after 07/04/07...use Save for previous versions)

@verizon.net

Got it working late last night. NO problem if I use a fixed IP on the my LAPTOP. ONce I Stand up a repeater and connect to it, if using DHCP i issued a 'REPAIR' to the network configutation and it went out and got me a new IP and it worked great. JUst a simple thing that I should have thought about before.

OH well, that what learning is all about.
THanks for your reply

I have had problems with RC4 in Bridged Repeater mode. DHCP will not work when using a Sonicwall as DHCP server. However, using a Windows DHCP server the wireless clients of the Bridged Repeater will obtain a lease. Using static IP addys shows no problem.

Have not tried the newer RCs but worth a shot. The hardware is 50 miles away so it will be while until I get a chance to try them.
