Irresponsible

Whoever allowed for this at the FBI should be tarred, feathered, fired and permanently disallowed from ever working for us ever again. It is precisely this kind of incompetence and laziness that makes the whole War on Terror look like a complete joke.

You mean it already isn't?

the War on Terror is already like the War on Drugs of this generation.

Yeah, all of those terror attacks on US soil since 9/11/01 really prove that point.

As if the US ever had as much as Israel before 9/11/01. No attacks since 9/11 means nothing as there is no way to all prevent attacks - it WILL happen again and now it is even harder for the govt agencies to really work together since there are now more than 80 new agencies/committes working to the same 'goal' (that truly is not achievable). Nor can the govt come up with actual stats for how many acts the illegal (again - against the US constitution they are supposed to uphold) wiretaps has prevented any attack.

Of course the govt backing of terrorist leaders does not help as well (Hussein/The Shah of Iran/Marcos etc... anyone?).

Uhhh... If you think us backing the Shah of Iran was bad... you might want to look at what happened to that country after we stopped backing him.

I think one must go through some mental gymnastics to disprove the association: We agressively persued terrorists on their own turf (Afganistan & probably covertly in Pakistan) and they haven't attacked us her in 6+ years.

You're right, it can happen again and probably will someday. As a free society we're always somewhat vulnerable to a handful of people that want to plan violence. However, given their stated motivation to destroy western society and especially us, the rational conclusion is that their attacks were either foiled or prevented by disrupting their ability to plan & iniatiate such attacks, at least for the time-being. And as a resident of the DC-metro area, I hope the current trends continue.

Republicans/conservatives always need to invent a "war" on something...it's how they unite their base and win elections.

Both major political parties are guilty of this. You could say that the "War on Drugs" began either under Nixon with his proclamation, or under FDR when he outlawed marijuana in 1937.

The "War on Poverty" was brought to us by LBJ. We're still fighting that with no appreciable results.

Funny, we weren't calling it the War on Terror until 2001, even though we had been attacked by this enemy repeatedly since 1785 (no, 1785 is not a typo).

With a catastrophically diminishing ozone hole right in between. Relax. Global warming will eventually quench the war on terror.

A further clarification on your point, he expanded the CORPORATE welfare more than any president ever. If it's not obvious, I'm not a corporatist...I firmly don't believe in handouts to corporations, it's no better than giving welfare checks to someone sitting at home doing nothing who is capable of working. I would also like us to reinstate the Sherman anti-trust act that Reagan killed, the tax rates pre-Reagan, and the energy policy Carter implemented, which Reagan also killed.

At least we get jobs in exchange for corporate welfare.

And do you really want to go back to the bad old days of 78% marginal income tax rates and 20%+ interest rates?

I really wish you were right about Reagan killing Carter's energy "policy." We'd have more nuclear reactors, more oil refineries, more oil exploration. Certainly not the BS we have to deal with now. Do you own stock in sweater companies by any chance?

*laughs* That site's pretty funny, basically counting a terrorist attack every time the odd middle-easterner looks at someone funny.

Too bad self-inflicted governmental maladies don't count as attacks. Then we'd get a real perspective of our "security" since 9-11.

I'll gladly restore the 78% tax bracket for the ultra wealthy. They've been able to amass their fortunes on the backs of American regulated infrastructure, so they should carry more of the load for being allowed to garner such wealth. Reagan killed "good government" as we knew it.

Do you honestly believe that CEOs are taking all their tax breaks so they can create jobs in America? Have you heard of Microsoft, Accenture, Oracle, etc? Do you think they have any desire to create jobs in America, other than front-end sales jobs?

You want more nuclear reactors? Can we dispose of the waste in your back yard?

Republican econmic policy has driven corporate consolidation, which has resulted in fewer gas refineries as big oil merges into just a few behemoths. How many billions in profits are enough? How fair is it that they conspired to limit refinery output to keep prices higher at the pump?

Do a little more reading, and a little less Faux News Channel. You'll find how Reagan ripped the solar panels off the White House that Carter installed to power the water heaters. Carter declared the oil crisis of the 70's to be a "clear and present danger" for the United States, and he set about on an aggressive energy policy to reduce our dependence on arab oil. It's all out there, you just need to be a little more curious of nature and do some reading. Learning isn't such a bad thing, conservatives are capable if they set their mind to it.
