I've actually seen the opposite of what you are stating. On my HTC Kasier (AT&T) I can get 1.5-2Mbps download durring the middle of the day, on my Sprint PPC-6800 I usually get 680-1250 Kbps, and Sprints network around here sucks, I drop calls all the time, the HTC rarely drops calls.
But as others have said, "Your millage will vary"

| There will be differing experiences, but on average, Sprint consistently shows better performance, especially for data cards. Phones will vary significantly as the bottleneck is typically in the phone, not the network.
