Good bye DirecTV

I've been waiting for CES to decide what I'm going to do with DirecTV. Based on the lack of news at CES and this information that they've decided to take Dish's route and compete with TiVo rather than work with them. I don't like the new receivers from DirecTV. To it looks like Comcast/FiOS with TiVo for me. Two HR10-250's HD DirecTiVo's will soon be eBay.

Re: Good bye DirecTV

Have to disagree with you here. Direc TV's dvrs have come a long way. I have been very happy with my hr-20. I guess I don't see the big deal with tivo service over direc tv. I think the remote booking is going to be a big advantage for direc tv. Many times someone brings up a show at work thi way i can remember to record it. Can't say i will ever go to cable after they couldn't even run a simple coax connection to my house.

This has been available for a little while now on the Beta software for the HR20-700 (I have two). I saw this on dbstalk , yesterday, so just as a test, I booked a recording of Scrubs at 1500 E on my bedroom HR20 from my T-Mobile cell phone. Worked great as I enjoyed the episode at about 2230 last night.

Most people, who want all the available HD content that DirecTV has, take the plunge and try the HR2x DVRs in their own home. About 90% come to like the HR2x after living with it from a couple of weeks to 2 or 3 months. About 10% are die-hard TiVO-natics that cannot, or will not, adapt.

If you are in the latter group, enjoy your Comcast/FIOS - hope it all works out for you.

I don't like the new receiver but I could potentially adapt. More importantly I don't think others (her name will be withheld) in my house would adapt well to the new DVRs and so the reason for the departure from DirecTV. Recently content on local cable has reached par with DirecTV but I'll miss the reliability of satellite. FiOS is just down the road so I'll have more options soon and will be able to recycle the hardware with either provider.

You must not have seen that part that says "TiVo receivers comming soon."
