 | What about TiVo units? What I want to know is, how does this affect the DirecTV Tivo users? It seems that lately DTV has taken a very hush-hush approach to a serious software problem in the 6.3e version. The units will reboot randomly, usually after about an hour of use. Personally I've been living with this problem for several months, and I just want the damn thing to work correctly--the hell with new features. When I call DTV they just want me to upgrade to their new DVR unit which I absolutely hate (my in-laws have one, and I just don't like it).
Just look at the responses on this DTV forum. This is hardly an isolated problem for users, and one lucky person actually had it fixed when he volunteered to test a 6.3f software version. The problem is there, the fix is possible, but the DTV CSR's refuse to acknowledge any of it. My only hope is that this new feature is part of a new software version that may fix this problem for the TiVo folks. »forums.directv.com/pe/action/for···10274448 |

 | There is a press release on DirecTV's web site that shows that Tivo will be getting a software upgrade to allow for remote booking. |

 | I talked to the tech guys, they transferred me to TiVo. The TiVo folks said they can't do anything because it's DTV's hardware. I called back to DTV and they hung up on me in the middle of transferring me between techs. Right now my workaround is to turn on the Tivo early in the morning, let it reboot, and then it's good for the rest of that day. |
