| HD is Overated
Recently my mother purchased a 50 LCD HD TV. I say her new toy on Thanksgiving. She subscribed to Comcast HD channels. When I talked to her; she with a bored sigh remarked pretty pictures. By Christmas the HD Box was gone replaced with the simpler Digital to analog box. As I think about it my mother is on to something. HD TVs are not getting any cheaper and the cries of the people over the need more HD channels.
I believe HD I s noting more that throwing good money and investment for pretty pictures of the same crappy programming. HD TV, Blu-Ray, HD DVD is all over rated. Do not get me started about Dolby 5.1 my old Kenwood sound better for music. |

Then again. If your serious , you do realize that most songs are not in 5.1 ? And that the quality of the system is what makes it sound good. Guessing you don't watch many movies either. -- "It's always funny until someone gets hurt......and then it's absolutely friggin' hysterical!" |

Guessing you don't watch many movies either. I am very serious, I do not buy things, working to be debt free and live below my means. I do not go to movies but wait to rent the dvd. I care more about content, story and or facts than looks. I do not see any added value to my watching experience going from letterbox on my TV to HD. As for music I bet you do not listen to classical music, Many recordings I own are produce in stereo but many cds I have are live recording that is done in Binaural recording. I used a recording of Beethovens 9th symphony and immediately notice the difference on my JVC 5.1 receiver. |

| I applaud you for staying debt free, or trying to, if that's your situation. I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't know what I'd do without a debit card.
That aside, and more directed at your original post; I laughed because it's amazing how different some people see HD technology (1080i or 1080p). I'm a purist when it comes to music as well; I still have my old BEOGRAM 4004 turntable. (g) However, honesty forces me to say there is a huge difference in overall audio and video quality when viewing and listening to HD equipment. There is no hype associated with 1080i; it's well worth the additional expense. You do find a bit of that when dealing with the 1080p stuff, because it is pretty hard to beat the original specifications associated with true 1080i "High Definition."
As for your old Kenwood sounding better... there is usually a way to adjust a new AV receiver so it plays as a traditional 2 channel stereo. If you really want monaural, a good ol' tube amp would be best. But, who wants to listen to that all day long? |
