I would question what makes you think Lafayette, LA is "in the woods" with a population of over 500,000 across the whole metro area, there is no way I could even conceive that someone would think this was "in the woods" as you say. This caught my eye only because I used to live there, and still have people that live there that I talk to from time to time. |

Being a native from Orlando and having family in Lafayette, LA there is indeed a major population difference between the two cities.

»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lafayette,···tan_area
For people that are not from Central Florida or Florida in general when they hear "Altamonte Springs" they one, can't say it right - they say usually: Altamontee (which usually makes people from that area cringe) and second they don't know where it is. I/we don't expect people to know where it is. That is why we say "Orlando" because everyone knows about Orlando and the evil rat (e.g. Mickey) that resides there. Technically the rat resides in Lake Buena Vista, FL - not Orlando, but that's besides the point.
Anyway, the greater Orlando area has far, far more people than the greater Lafayette area. However, just like Orlando...Lafayette is growing as well in population.
