Re: Highest Paid

I'd probably say its the filthiest city in America too. I like NY, Chi-town, Los Angeles, and even Memphis before Hellanta.

Cities I hate going to:
Atlanta (filthy, planes NEVER ontime)
Miami (Gun Required, Real Nice on the rich side)
New Orleans (nice before Katrina)
Detroit (okay)

Cities I love the most:
NYC (The world in one city)
Memphis (slow paced)
Seattle
Boston
Chicago
Los Angeles
San Fran
San Diego
Minneapolis
London
Phoenix

I'd take London over New York any day.

How could you think any place is filthier than NYC? Calcutta or Madras is cleaner than that place.

And I defintely don't buy that "NYC is the center of the universe" nonsense. Give me London, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Geneva, Sydney or Moscow any day over NYC. Only people that think NYC is the center of the universe are people who have never been anywhere else.

London is probably the dirtiest city in Europe. I haven't been to NYC in years, but I can't imagine its fallen THAT far.

Atlanta is interesting city. I've lived here for a few yrs now (originally from Orlando) and I've had to get used to it. I'm still trying to get used to it actually.

I don't think its too dirty, but the air most definitely is come summer time.

I'm still trying to get used to the quirks people have in the ATL area:

1: Everyone takes their sweet time at pretty much anything

2: The traffic lights take forever and a day and they are allergic to putting sensors in the roads for the traffic ligths

3: I've never experienced an interstate flooding when it rains - I75 will flood in some areas if it rains pretty hard for a long enough time - the drainage in Atlanta isn't up to par.

4: When driving onto an on-ramp to the freeway people treat it as a regular city road doing about 20 ~ 30MPH, last time I checked an on-ramp is there to speed up and merge in with the traffic flow. They try doing that in FL, they'd get run over and/or cut off and cursed at.

And finally (I have more, but this list will be brief):

5: God forbid if its raining, even a mere drizzle! People on the roads will slow down to a crawl because its as if they never experienced rain before. Its great to be cautious, but damn!

As for your list, I have to concur on most of the cities on your list. NYC is most definitely not the center of the universe, but its reasonably clean.

My favorites are London & Berlin (Germany)

I've never understood the folks that slow down to like 5mph, and turn on their flashers.

My favorite is when we get snow. Happens every couple of years. That's when the rednecks in lifted 4WD Pick-em-ups try to show off. They'll pass me on 400 about Bald Ridge exit doing 60 mph and by the time I get to Haynes Bridge, they've reached their final destination- greasy side up in the median near McFarland.

Um, you live in Pensacola and are making light of Atlanta?

Puh-lease. Yeah, you're real qualified to make such statements, what with hailing from Floribama's finest tourist trap. Tell me, do all those redneck parking beaches have a Hooter's on them, or is it just me?

(rolls eyes)

And, you offer the highly academic observation that the "planes are NEVER on time" and this suits fine as a general characterization of the city of Atlanta. Wow, way to go out on a limb. I'm sure most cities could "boast" that attribute.

You guys are way off, From what I've seen and read from the News Beijing Chinas Air and Water is the most polluted of all, It makes Los Angeles from the 60's look pretty clean by comparison. Of course to help make the place look cleaner for the Olympics the government there is going to extremes like moving or shutting down factories(But no new pollution controls mandated), Keeping cars off the roads, etc. The Summer Olympics may not happen there if the pollution is still really really bad there. Of course Beijing has nothing on Yermo CA, Our Air is spectacular!

Merely said in my humble experience NYC was the dirtiest place I've ever been.

I've never been to Bejing so it may well be dirtier - I don't know.

Also, can't stand that "Fockin Noo Yawk is the fockin center of the fockin' woild" attitude" generally espoused by people from Suburban NJ who've never been anywhere else because their IROC won't make it that far. London is 100x more cosmpolitan than NY and no crappy attitude to boot.

LOL...

1: Everyone takes their sweet time at pretty much anything

You dont drive on 285 much do you

2: The traffic lights take forever and a day and they are allergic to putting sensors in the roads for the traffic ligths

Oh, they have the sensors...they just are not synchronized.

3: I've never experienced an interstate flooding when it rains - I75 will flood in some areas if it rains pretty hard for a long enough time - the drainage in Atlanta isn't up to par

Does not seem to be a problem this year

4: When driving onto an on-ramp to the freeway people treat it as a regular city road doing about 20 ~ 30MPH, last time I checked an on-ramp is there to speed up and merge in with the traffic flow. They try doing that in FL, they'd get run over and/or cut off and cursed at.

Lived in ATl for 20 years, and here are my comments in regards to traffic and such..

2: The traffic lights take forever and a day and they are allergic to putting sensors in the roads for the traffic ligths - Sensors are in place, but everytime they tear up the roads, the paving company screws them up and they are not held responsible for fixing them.

3: I've never experienced an interstate flooding when it rains - I75 will flood in some areas if it rains pretty hard for a long enough time - the drainage in Atlanta isn't up to par. - Have to agree with that one. In fact there are no storm drains on my street at all., so the water runs down the street to a low spot a couple of blocks (and streets) away.

5: God forbid if its raining, even a mere drizzle! People on the roads will slow down to a crawl because its as if they never experienced rain before. Its great to be cautious, but damn! - And heaven forbid the "S" word is spoken by the local weather folks (SNOW!) - Everyone has to rush to the stores to stock up on milk and bread, for an event that usually last 24 hours, if that.
