Windstream DNS Servers - With and Without Ads

Well my email to the top got a rapid response. I was called by Tier 2 in Ohio with an immediate answer to my problem.

I was told Windstream has added additional DNS servers just because they expected calls and emails. Or that was what I was told.

They have 6 DNS servers.

Servers 1, 2, 3, and 4 have the Yahoo powered redirection on non-existent domains.

Serves 5 and 6 don't redirect! If what I post below is confusing here is the simple answer, use these to remove the redirection:

nsvip05.windstream.net 166.102.165.32

nsvip06.windstream.net 207.91.5.32

and that is the end of the ads....

Haha, It's nice someone listens..

Already changed my DNS on Tomato.

They work just fine.

I bet Level3 is happy, Ha.

Nice. However (there always is... Level3 servers are one hope closer and almost three times faster. Also, they are much easier to remember:

4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
4.2.2.3
4.2.2.4
4.2.2.5
4.2.2.6

Although, being good netizens we are we should use Windstream's.
We should probably send in a news update »/news

Piggie, glad to hear that you got a quick response. I'm also very glad to hear that Windstream put up some "clean" DNS servers. Regardless of whether or not you use them, it's nice to know that they care about their tech-savvy and ad-annoyed customers.

Another attribute to Level3 is if you are a server operator or webmaster and do a lot of domain name changes on servers. They update almost instantly when you submit a domain name change. I have seen them update hours ahead of WS DNS.

That was something I didn't add. Not only did Level 2 call me because my email got to Jeff Gardner, but the Level 2 tech also said he read my posts on here. Interesting, particularly the fact they came here to see if I posted what I said in the letter..... Very interesting...

Back in the day, catering to their tech-savvy customers was their forte'. It seems they are despite Wipro and other problems are still seem to have "it". Just like KA4JUR had his static IP Reverse DNS customized. Few if any companies do this. But how I wish they would fix their internal communications, please??

LOL, Hey Pork Chop is a buddy of mine that teaches KungFu out of his sty. Cheap rates...

If you watch me post, I make up things because PorkChop is not the real name of my user. I edit it before I post.

Me personally? I think hijacking and trolling adds character to a thread, not heard them.

@piggie,

thanks for the heads-up on this thread... i have filed a complaint with windstream on two accounts... the first being their move to offshore level 1 tech support to India and the second for this problem that they have created due to their corporate greed...

now, if the complaint(s) actually get to those who need to see them... that's another story altogether :?

OpenDNS is not any better. As somebody already pointed out, OpenDNS also redirects. Unless you have an account and browser with cookies enabled it will redirect you to their ad server.

True but at least if you screw up windstream.co it will bring you to .com, L3's DNS servers might be nice though.

Thank you so much for posting the uncrippled dns servers Piggie!
I just now noticed this horrible dns-redirection since I had shut down bind while upgrading. I bit the bullet and tried calling India - just to be told to powercycle my router and that a "supervisor" would be calling me back (they didn't).
This sort of practice bugs me to no end. You can't just go fundamentally breaking internet standards - reeks of corporate-sponsored spyware to me...
