You know, that's what I thought, but when I posted a similar topic over at AVS, Many people "jumped on" the post, claiming, as Afiggat said above, that there will only be an HD feed of the Network Programming, & Cable companies will have to Downconvert center cut or letter box it for delivery to therir SD customers ...
My question there was if the local WCBS-TV NY Digital channel here, which currently has no Subchannels now, will "add" an SD subchannel feed after Feb'09 when their analog SD shuts down.
I ASSumed they would, but The consensus in the AVS thread was that they would provide the HD feed only, no need to waste bandwidth when downconversion could be done at the cable end ...:

www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthre···t=974655 Don't know about the likelihood for downconversion or not, but what you've posted is my understanding of that transition date as well. Both DirecTV and Dish are having issues in complying with some of what the FCC is requesting for local channels (I understand that the FCC is either requiring, or requesting, that they maintain SD feeds of local channels, in markets where they currently provide locals) - the problem is that many local stations haven't announced what their plans are post OTA cutover - whether they'll provide a subchannel with the SD feed or whether it'll be up to the cable/satellite provider to do that.
