| [TrendNet] TEW-432BRP vD1.0 blocking some secure sites
So I updated the firmware on this router to the newest version offered by TrendNet. And now much to my avail, I cant get to websites such as Hotmail.com MSN.com Microsoft Update, MSN messenger. And some other secure sites. I have sent an email to TrendNet asking them whats the deal, but I havent gotten a response yet.
I know its a router problem because I cant get to those sites from any computer behind my router. If I jump over to my neighbours unsecured (tee hee) network and use thier connection. MSN sites load fine.
I have tried playing around with my MTU values, with no success.
Can anybody think of something else I could try?
Thanks.
-EDIT- If anybody has, or can get the original firmware for this POS, I would be much ablidged

| This should not be a router issue, I have recently gotten the same router to replace a dead D-Lunk
Done the update also and have not encountered any such problems as of yet including a couple you places mention. (Which I notice are also all M$ sites. )
Have you tried disabling Firewall and virus/spyware stuff that might be unexpectedly interfering. (Zone Alarm Free can be infuriating at times with that stuff, after it stacks enough rejected/ignored requests, and has to be shutdown/restarted.) -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

| reply to UnrealLiquid Not sure if this is related, but I had a problem with this router and newegg.com. I couldn't log in nor use any www links on the site after the initial page load.
No other sites exhibited this problem and it went away when I switched to an old router. Something has to be wrong with the TrendNet, I'm hoping they release a newer firmware soon. |

| Well though dealing with many secure sites (even under VISTA).... haven't had the problem.
Maybe just how (actually non standard... trying to be IE (off the wall) compatible a particular site was.
Personally I pretty much avoid all sites that say we are IE compatible only. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

| reply to UnrealLiquid I had the same problem as UnrealLiquid. I recently upgraded the firmware on my TEW-432BRP D1.0R and it stopped working for some websites such Hotmail, MSN, and some other non-Microsoft ones. I tried a hard reset and loading setup defaults, changing MTU, etc. but nothing worked. It is not due to a double-NAT situation because I have only one router and the WAN IP is not NATed. It is not the computer because I have two of them (one Vista, one XP) and they both don't work. I am going to have to replace the router if I can't get an old firmware or a fix. |

| Well I gave up and got a new Linksys to replace this piece of garbage Trendnet. But just to add some parting info that may or may not be useful: The original working firmware was 3.00b0006 The defective firmware you can get from the official website is 3.00b0011 There is a Russian website, »downloads.trendnet.ru that has 3.00b0015 and 3.00b0019, for some reason not available on the main site, but 3.00b0019 did not fix things and I didn't try 3.00b0015. Since that Russian site has newer firmware maybe the next one they release (if any) will fix this problem, it could be on that site before the official one, so look there first. Perhaps useful info to someone. I suppose it is possible that it is not the firmware, but something in the configuration that gets corrupted, however I have hard reset the router several times, loaded setup defaults, with no result. |

| Well I'll just say again, even with the OFFICIAL update firmware, have yet to encounter that problem with ANY secure site.
Care to give some example sites for me to try... you may have had something else going on. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

| reply to UnrealLiquid When I'm connected directly to my modem every site works fine. When I'm connected to the Trendnet TEW-432BRP router (whether via wire or wireless) I'm unable to access any websites that I have to log in to. For example, after logging in to Hotmail or Gmail, it freezes. |

| Again ZILCH problems in that regard.... could ANY of you complaining actually give some SPECIFICS as to ISP, configurations, what modem, router stats etc.
And is it a straight modem or modem/router which if not switched to a bridged mode (if possible depending on modem) you may well be running into double NAT'ing issues causing this. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

| I am using:
Local cable ISP Motorola SB4200 TrendNet TEW-432BRP Rev.D1.0R Linksys RTP300 Vonage VOIP 2x WinXP SP2 clients 1x Win2k SP4 client
All devices are off the Trendnet which provides DHCP and DNS for the vonage device, all others are static and use ISP's DNS. The RTP300 is only for VOIP and has no clients.
Everything works as normal except the secure Newegg site as noted above. I have no troubles with MSN, Yahoo or any other secure sites. Newegg will not work correctly on any of the client machines. After I replace the TrendNet router with my old one, a Linksys WRT54GC v1.0, I can log in and surf Newegg again. Very odd. |

| reply to Hayward I have an Alcatel SpeedTouch Home, with Sympatico DSL. The OP UnrealLiquid is from Winnipeg, maybe he had Sympatico too. My problem was identical to his, in that no MS sites would work at all, as well as some other sites (but most sites did work.)
It can't be a double-NAT situation because my modem does not do NAT. Also the router had a proper non-NAT IP from PPPOE when I checked. Neither the Vista nor the XP machine behind the router worked right, but a direct modem connection worked fine.
I tried everything and gave up, since I needed Hotmail access I bought a new Linksys router.
I upgraded to see if the new firmware would fix UPNP for a program I was using, but it did not fix UPNP for that program. The Linksys works properly.
I emailed Trendnet and after a few days they did send me the old original firmware, which the OP had requested. So I could check if it is in fact the firmware, however the old Trendnet has gone in my junk box. |

| reply to UnrealLiquid I had the same problem as described by UnrealLiquid. I had revision 6 firmware and upgraded to rev 11 from official website because the pppoe settings coldn't be made with Firefox (IE worked). After update, microsoft websites were unable to load. I emailed Trandnet explaining and they sent me rev 6 firmware. However i tried to downgrade back to rev 6 and router blocked completly! i cound't use it anymore (tried reseting and everything). I got back to the store and lucky me the changed it with a brand new router (rev 6). Surprise! Now microsoft websites work. (firefox/IE problem still there) I can provide rev 6 firmware but use it on your own risk! You can make your router unusuable! email me at esteticu a t gmail d o t com. Good luck |

| reply to Hayward I purchased one of these routers for my parents. Before taking it to them, I hooked it up at my home last night to verify that it was working, to update the firmware and to configure it. My setup is the same as RouterRouted's. I swapped out my Linksys router for the Trendnet, configured the PPPoE settings and connected to the internet. My MSN Messenger logged in automatically and everything seemed fine.
I downloaded and installed the latest firmware update for it and was no longer able to bring up several sites including aol.com, pcmag.com, maximumpc.com and the MSN sites. Resetting the router and reloading the firmware did not fix the problem.
Then I connected my Linksys router between the DSL modem and the TrendNet router and set the TrendNet's WAN connection to DHCP Client. In this configuration I was able to load these sites once again.
My guess here is that those who are having this problem are using the PPPoE WAN setting to connect to their ISPs and those who do not have this problem are using the DHCP WAN setting.
I called TrendNet's support line last night and explained this but the level 1 person did not seem to be interested. She was not able to resolve the problem and told me level 2 support would call me back today.
From what I have found online, this problem has been around for over 3 months and TrendNet has not addressed it. So I have put the product back in it's package and will be returning it to the store I bought it from. |

| reply to UnrealLiquid I don't have this unit. I have the TEW-633GR. I had an older unit too. I know some of the Trendnet and other units mess with the MTU when the SPI firewall is turned on.
Have you tried turning off SPI Firewall?
What about checking to see if your MTU is ok with unit. Try using these procedures to see if the MTU is getting altered and what the MTU should be...

| reply to UnrealLiquid I'm having the exact same problem I just got this unit and upgraded to the latest firmware (which is an automatic for me when I get any unit). And now, I can't access certain sites. I hope someone finds a solution to this before my sledgehammer takes care of the unit... |
