King Of Prussia, PA | Could my Wii interfere with my wireless router? I got a Wii for the family.
I am using a Belkin 802.11b Wireless Cable/DSL Gateway Router
Part # F5D6231-4
Home network includes PCs, one wired, one wireless. I also bring a dell laptop home from the office to work.
Anyway, recently (since getting the Wii), often the wireless PC will not connect to the router, nor will the laptop. I can see it in the list of available connections, but it just won't connect.
I have to go downstairs (the router is in the basement) and unplug it to reset it. Then, after it reboots, it lets the computers connect just fine.
The hard wired PC never has any problem.
It also happened to the Wii once.
Does the Wii block out other connections to a router?

Tombstone, AZ | I do not know the cause, But i had that exact same router and it did the exact same thing. I replaced it with a Dlink and never had the problem again.

Should not since it only has a receiver - my Wii works fine with a wireless Linksys router. |

The Wii has to have a transmitter and a receiver in order to connect to an access point and communicate with the internet.
How does yours work fine "without wireless Linksys Router"?
I mean, yes, it will work fine, but you would not have access to things like the weather, news, surveys and updates, not to mention head to head games like Guitar Hero III.

Never had a problem with the Wii hooked up wirelessly to my router. Maybe you should upgrade the router to a G type of router, that should fix the issue as that router you have is out dated. |

What kind of security do you have setup on the belkin? It is possible that the allowed DHCP client number is set to 3. MAC filtering on the WLAN side?

Before everyone starts to tell me what a bad person I am for doing this, don't. It is my choice and it is not what this thread is about. I found the WEP to be more of a hassle than it is worth. Remember, this is an old Belkin 80211.b, it does not have enough range to reach my living room, let alone the street outside.
On the router menu, I do not see anything a DHCP client number, but I have operated 5 wireless connections at the same time on it (2 desktops, 2 laptops and the Wii).
There is no MAC filtering.
I am checking to see if my firmware is too old right now. -- No, update is available.

| Wii uses Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is a frequency hopping technology - it transmits each successive data packet at a different frequency (channel). WiFi interference is minimal and manifests itself as slightly reduced speed and slightly increased latency, if Bluetooth is highly active. |

kudos:1 | I'm not into game consoles but apparently they have something called a wiimote which is a bluetooth game controller.
Don't take my word for it. Follow the google links.
Wii interference troubleshooting is easy. Turn off the wii and take out the batteries. How hard can it be?

Bloom County | Probably more of an issue of proximity - where the router/pc is compared to the Wii. Our Wii is the farthest object away form the router and my wife's PC is between the Wii and router and we have no issues with the Wii. |
