This is a sign that business is really slowing down for Sprint. |

A much better acquisition for Verizon Wireless or Sprint would be ALLTEL. -- Only SHATNER is Kirk. |

| reply to NY Tel Perhaps time is all it will take, let them bleed a little bit more before moving in for the kill. 5000 last year, more to follow now?
And then there's getting the Federal nod, not that that is ever a real hurdle. -- ....where's my fiber? |

| reply to pnh102 Wasn't Alltel recently sold? And as far as the overlap is concerned - that would be 50 million additional subscribers who would be able to take advantage of the Verizon network, allow them to shut down duplicate towers and become the largest carrier overnight. |

| reply to pnh102 Yeah.. Sprint should have bought Alltel or US Cellular... I can only thank Sprint for one thing.. Them laying me off last year.. If they hadn't I would still be there and not have this awesome job managing Verizon FIOS locations... |

I don't think Verizon would want to touch the mess that is Sprint. I don't have Verizon Wireless as my personal cell provider but it seems they are doing pretty well without Sprint as it stands now. If they were to acquire Sprint, it would be a huge financial risk for a company that is doing very well. There would be all sorts of problems, and if Verizon is smart, they would want to avoid such hassles. -- Only SHATNER is Kirk. |

| reply to pnh102 Probably why Verizon has not yet offered me the job of Senior VP of Mergers and Acquisitions. Hey I'm a former employee - they could just re-activate me and bridge my years of service, I'll buy Sprint - shut the towers down, overload the network and collect my 6 million in executive perks.....lol Works for me |

1 edit | Sprint is a $40B+ Fortune 100 profitable (barely) company. They could lose millions more customers and still be an F100 company.
The issue is iDen losses, not CDMA. Once they convert iDen customers to CDMA and improve customer support (it's getting better), they'll be back on track. When they merged, they said it would take several years for the dust to settle. Well it's only been two. Give it a couple more years.
If WiMAX takes off, they'll be in good shape.
This is no different than US car companies going through ups/downs. They're just too big to go away. |

| reply to xenophon what you fail to mention is that the iDEN bubbas didn't just switch over to the CDMA side of sprint. They left. That has to be the case because you can't move people around on your network and lose money. People have to leave.
Also, Sprint lost a lot of the original Sprint faithfuls (like me) who viewed them as an advanced company pairing up with a bunch of hick chirp users. These days, Verizon and ATT understand the tech just as well as the old Sprint used to so yo udont have to stick with them to be cool or hip.
And the MVNOs are killing sprint. They need to stop those the sooner the better. |
