Re: Slowing down

Wasn't Alltel recently sold? And as far as the overlap is concerned - that would be 50 million additional subscribers who would be able to take advantage of the Verizon network, allow them to shut down duplicate towers and become the largest carrier overnight.

I don't think Verizon would want to touch the mess that is Sprint. I don't have Verizon Wireless as my personal cell provider but it seems they are doing pretty well without Sprint as it stands now. If they were to acquire Sprint, it would be a huge financial risk for a company that is doing very well. There would be all sorts of problems, and if Verizon is smart, they would want to avoid such hassles.

I concur. VZW seems a lot more concerned about profitability than they are about shear size.

Probably why Verizon has not yet offered me the job of Senior VP of Mergers and Acquisitions. Hey I'm a former employee - they could just re-activate me and bridge my years of service, I'll buy Sprint - shut the towers down, overload the network and collect my 6 million in executive perks.....lol
Works for me

Alltel is now privately held but that doesn't prevent them from being acquired in the future. Stock analysts have stated for some time that Alltel would be an excellent fit with Verizon Wireless.

I believe that Verizon "peers" or uses quite a bit of Alltel's network already.
