 | Motorola SBV5220 + Modem Rental I have a Motorola SBV5220 VOIP cable modem with battery backup. I would like to buy my own modem to get out from under the modem rental fee. On Amazon.com one of the reviews says that Comcast would not let the owner install his own modem. Does anyone know if PatMedia allows you to purchase your own SBV5220 and install it? |

 | I don't know about that specific modem, but I recently called PatMedia and had them provision a purchased modem. I'm using the Motorola SB5100, but they never asked for the brand/model, only for the MAC number. It took 5-10 minutes, and then I was up and running.
It's easy, and you have a choice of returning the leased modem to their office in Somerset, or they will send you a return label so that you return it in the mail.

 | reply to shaffer001 Here is the response I got from PatMedia:
'Unfortunately, only Patriot supplied modems can support our telephone service at this time.' |

 | Okay----I misunderstood the original post. My response was related to HSI only, not telephone service.
