The USSR would have continued as it had if Reagan had not done anything. It had been going strong for 70 years until Reagan put an end to it.
Oh yes, and we can thank Carter for throwing the Shah of Iran under the bus and doing nothing to stop the mullahs for taking power in Iran. He could have stopped Iran, but he chose not to. We now see, 30 years later, the failure of his idiotic foreign policy (or lack thereof).
