It fits a market that you don't like. So what. I have 2 clients that have been dying for something like this and they've already preordered the SSD model. |

I will admit I'm a bit disappointed with the battery life... they could have done better. -- "When Apple Care fails, when all hope is lost, there's one last thing to try... take your issue straight to the top: sjobs@apple.com" |

I usually do better on my battery life than Apple reports I will. I get almost that long using my MacBook (with BT off and brightness down and no optical disc) so I imagine the Air can do a bit better as well... |

I travel a LOT, and find that the battery life of my MBP is more than sufficient for my needs, and if I need to charge it up, I can find power sources in the car, airplane, or airport lounge/gate to plug in. I fail to see how battery life of 5 hours is a problem. Edit: High price? Have you checked out how expensive windows based ultra portable pcs are that are comparably equipped? |

Less people care about removable batteries than you think. All the non-technical people that were drawn to the iPhone will get drawn to these as well. The "cool" factor will outweigh the lack of a removal battery. At least, that's what Apple is hoping for.
I don't see myself buying one of these, but the lack of a replaceable battery isn't really the deal breaker as much as the the price and lack of FireWire, Optical, and ethernet. |

They bring their laptop all over their homes and places of business and don't use optical drives. |

 | reply to M A R S Price doesn't always mean a product will flop, I bought my 12" PowerBook based on it having better specs than the iBook and a lil lighter. If you have to carry a notebook everywhere, you'll find those who value size/weight. 3 lb sub-notebook is tempting these days esp with the TSA being a headache for travel.
The MBA rev a is likely to have moderate interest for awhile then it'll decline due to the lack of extra USB ports, I'd be afraid if the only USB port died... moving files via wifi would be painful and how would ya reinstall OS X if the USB port is toast eh? (yeah using Toast is possible to use disc images of app/game CDs... again its been popular with most 'Book owners while on the road)
I had one of my USB ports go flakey on my 12" PowerBook and thought having a single USB port felt very limiting
As for the travel/student users, the MBA would be one neat multibooting portable(boot OS X, Windows & Linux) if it can be done. So I guess for me its more of a mixed opinion |

| reply to rugby And they use a Mac? I just don't see the need for a crippled Mac Book aimed at "Road Warriors" This is not good for Apple stock and just have a real hard time seeing where a Mac will fit in to this market segment. -- Neturei Karta |

| reply to M A R S Frankly, this thing is AWESOMELY appealing.
3lbs. Mac OS X. VMWare with Windows. 3lbs.
When you travel for work, it BITES THE BIG ONE for me to travel around, dragging my PowerBook G4 and my HP laptop for work.
If I could reduce those to a single, 3lb unit, MAN, that's incredible.
5 hrs of battery life? Awesome. That's fine. If I need more juice, I'll plug in.
I think this thing is gonna sell like hotcakes. I know that - if I had some spare $$ these days - I'd have preordered one already. Having a new baby in the house sorta limits the tech purchases, ya know? I'd rather have my wife home with the baby than some extra cash in the pocket right now .... |

said by HiVolt:No FW I can somewhat understand, but 1 USB is terrible. Given that there's no wired ethernet, if you happen to be using the USB to ethernet adapter, you can't use a USB stick, a USB mouse, USB anything... You'll have to resort to bulky USB hubs as they are now. I can almost guarantee there will be a MB Air USB hub, to pop into that port and provide 2-3 USB ports. -- Neturei Karta |
