Re: [Thunderbird] Uses LOTS of disk space - can't clean up said by SmokChsr:What I was wondering is does Thunderbird force folder compacting on DST changes the way netscape does? What is "DST changes"?
I've got 2 GB of mail stashed away in a bunch of folders in Tbird. The compaction runs so quickly that I don't normally notice it. |

However, I couldn't correlate DST/DWT (Daylight Wasting Time) switch to why an email client would compact its files. I guess it does it twice a year whether it needs to or not. |

I can't speak as to why, just know that it does. It was often quite frustrating, to come in after "Your Clock has been updated" and have to wait for a folder compact to complete as you clicked on each one. No it wouldn't just go ahead and do it, it sat back and waited for you to click on each folder before it started the compact process. |

rick752Premium join:2006-01-27 New York 3 edits | It seems I vaguely remember the old Netscape Mail doing a compact on every folder I clicked on every great while. Is THAT why? ... automatic only on DST changes? I never knew what set that off because I think compacting folders was a manual operation then.
Just do what I told the OP to do here and your won't need to bother with that anymore. -- EasyList, EasyElement, & ABP Tracking Filter Subscriptions for Adblock Plus |
