 | Where's My 5 Megs? I live in Christiansburg which is served by the Radford office. The other night I see an email from Jet that says they will be upgrading the speeds from 3 meg to 5 meg.
Shortly after Jet took over I had problems with losing connectivity and slow speeds but after a month or two the speeds have been pretty consistent and I can't really complain. However, I will say that when Charter and then Suddenlink was in charge I only had one episode of losing my connection for about 4 days in a span of nearly 4 years. I guess if you add it all up then overall I've had more connection loss and slow speeds with Jet than with Charter/Suddenlink, but again, I'll give Jet some slack.
At one point with Jet I was getting nearly 8 megs down and over 1 meg up which I assume was because my router was provisioned incorrectly. Like an idiot I called support one night when my connection went down and magically when it came back up it was only 3 megs down which sucked but thats all I was supposed to get anyway so what can I say?
But back to my point. It's been a few days now since this so called upgrade and I'm still only getting 3 megs. A few times I'm hitting around 3.5 megs or so but I'm not getting anywhere near 5 like I should.
Anyone else actually getting 5 megs yet? |

 | Update: I went to their site and apparently you have to pay 20 bucks more a month if you want the 5 megs. What bullshit. I knew this was going to happen. I mean, paid 60 a month with charter/suddenlink and was glad to see that when jet took over that my bill dropped 20 a month but now I see it was only temporary. Fucking crooks. I guess it's back to paying 60 a month. What a crock.
If I do upgrade I hope that I actually get 5 megs... |

 | reply to Ben Dover dude, i hear you man. i was at my wits end with Jet but they finally got it straightened out this week... for now. i am going to guess, given what i know about recent problems they've had, they are not in a position to upgrade the service to 5mb yet. overpromising and under-delivering like most companies hopefully soon, but who knows. just be happy if you're getting a reliable 3mb vs a poor 5mb connection. unless you download lots of porn or online movies, the diff b/w 3mb and 5mb isn't much. |

 | reply to Ben Dover i'm not necessarily defending JB here b/c i think they and/or the org they took over is terribly mismanaged on many levels... but i work for an ISP and know bandwidth is expensive, so personally i don't mind paying more for more available bandwidth. you use more you pay more, basic economics. it's harder and costlier to get large internet feeds to our area at current. if you consider that a 1.5mbps T1 line still costs about $500 (but is way more reliable than cable), the $50/mo for 5mb doesn't sound too bad. |
