Encryption

And what exactly will this do to torrents with the transfers encrypted?

Absolutely nothing. Expect to see ALL P2P apps use encryption from now on. Expect to see all torrent sites become ». They can't block what they can't see.

You can still block all traffic to a suspect end point(tracking providers for example), whether it is encrypted or not. Identify the sources of the problem and encryption is irrelevant.

Ha.. hahahaha... What planet are YOU from? Didn't you see what happened when Rogers tried to block access to a union site? They got their heads handed to them on a platter.

If AT&T were stupid enough to try this (and I honestly don't think they are, but never underestimate the stupidity of the corrupt CEO's), it would result in a net neutrality law which would change their entire business model. I'll guarantee that.

Blocked, or ISP equipment will play man-in-the middle attacks, which can only be countered using SSL/Public Key Certificates issued by Certificate Authorities (Verisign, Thwarte, etc), then again if the NSA/CIA/FBI gets involved, well, a Verisign executive will secretly hand over the private key of Verisign to the NSA, or have their kid/wife/rarily pet wind up dead and raped on a rural dirt road. Things are so simple in life.

Although there is a problem, the filtering equipment would need to hide from its administrators that it has, or can look inside, or spoof Verisign, which is very hard, since it will leak otherwise, then again, maybe the NSA can be sub-contracted out to do the filtering, and then nobody will know, well they already do that, so this conversation is moot.

Huh? Explain. Google says nothing.

karlmarx See Profile may have been referring to the situation with Telus, a Canadian telco, when they blocked a pro-union website.
