Rate Hike & Contract

How does the rate hikes play with the contracts that DTV customers sign at first? you agree to keep the service for 18 months but does that give them the right to raise the rates during that period for the package you signed up?

DirecTV customers have a "programming commitment" - they agree to maintain a minimum level of programming for a 24 month period. DirecTV maintains the right to change the package and the price - no different than cable operators who switch channels in/out of different tiers...

I just signed up for DTV last week...i'm moving away from Comcast and their crappy tv lineup. I'll be saving about $35-$45 a month on my usual 3-services monthly fee, just by ditching comcast for tv and going with DTV. (while keeping Comcast for internet and phone)

They told me when I locked in that they'd never go above the top rate... I do wonder if these hikes apply to the new customer packages they've put together or if its for ongoing customers. From what I've read, they do a bit more to give a good deal to new customers than they do with existing ones.

Rate hikes are normal and expected. At least they're not decreasing the quality of the packages while charging you more like comcast likes to do twice a year.
