Perhaps they think they'd do better selling service through their website instead? I can't say for all their stores. The one nearest me in a strip mall does decent business. There always seems to be customers in there when I go by.
And when I go to a regional mall, the Verizon store is always packed. In fact, the last time I went in there, they had a "take a number" system to wait on people they are so busy.
So, while I and others do a lot of business and shopping on the web, there evidently are still a lot of people that like to get hands on a phone 1st before buying.
As for myself, I did a lot of research and checking online before I renewed my cellphone contract, but I did go to the Verizon store to check out the different models of phones in person before I made my decision.
