| Port Help with Netoptia modem model 2210
Hi, i've recently started using Bellsouth DSL lite service and i've noticed barely any of my ports are open. I'm unable to get applications like emule to work correctly now. I've never had this issue prior to using this service.
I'm assuming its the modem? Is there anything I can do to fix this situation? |

| Access the UI of the 2210, 192.168.1.254 .
Select the Firewall/settings tab, that is where the info for NAT'g and Port Forwarding issues can be configured.
Had a friend on XBL w/ a Netopia 2241 tell me recently that the NAT for that service shows as strict when tested from the service w/ his 360 direct connected, not good. He wasn't aware of this and was having all sorts of probs connecting/chating and what not. Westell's that used to be sent out didn't have that issue.
I don't know why the Netopia/Motorola residence gateway is setup like this, but can be a real pain if you don't know what to look for.
Peace! |

| reply to JC On 2210 - there is no Firewall/settings tab. If you are not using another router then follow the instructions below:
Instead, JC, open up the modem page and click on advanced, then click on Connection Configuration - at the bottom click on Yes, Use Public IP. Then click Save Changes. If its already set to that... then dunno what to tell ya. =(
However if you are using a router behind the 2210 - then you might want to set the 2210 into bridge mode and put the pppoe on the router. Otherwise you are double NAT'ing which can cause connection issues. |

@bellsouth.net | reply to JC Thanks for the info guys. My configuration menu looks like the first one.
"The bellsouth region version 2210-02-1006"
I don't see anything about a public IP with your instructions. Can anyone help clarify this? |

@bellsouth.net | reply to JC Also, whenever I disable NAT, I can no longer browse websites. Is there a way around this? |

| Does your computer have an Inbound/Outbound Firewall?
Do you know anything about Port Forwarding?
Do you know what ports that your applications need to have forwarded?
Do you only have your Motorola 2210-02-1006 and one computer, or do you have another router and more computers and devices on your network?
What kind of modem/router did you have before and what kind of Internet service did you have before.
You need to turn NAT back on. |

Motorola 2210-02-1006 IP Passthrough-DMZ Configuration. | IP Passthrough. | Select from predefined services and click the Enable button. | Click Define Custom Service Button. | Use Port Forward-Port Trigger sometimes don't work. | Name your Service-Define your Ports and Protocol-Click Next-Read FAQs. Even though these FAQs are for a Westell it is the same idea for the Motorola 2210-02-1006, the pictures are just different.
I highly recommend that you do not enable IP Passthrough and put your computer into the DMZ. Your Motorola 2210-02-1006 will not provide any protection to your computer. Your computer will naked on the Internet.

You need to learn how to forward a port through NAT.

Read through the FAQs and dig through the settings in your Motorola 2210. You will figure this out. If you get the settings all screwed up, make sure that you know your FastAccess DSL username and password, then reset your modem to factory default and start over. |

| reply to JC Airwolf thanks a lot, your instructions worked perfectly. And to answer your questions: I have no software firewall, only 1 laptop I have, no router(but have previous experience with one), and I know how to port forward.
Thanks to your guide I managed to forward all the correct ports and everything is working now. Thanks a lot |

1 edit | Your Welcome.
I glad that I could help you, but remember that I only provided the pictures and took the time to do it. The members Andrew Houtz/FAQFixer and KeysCapt wrote the FAQs that I linked to in my reply so thanks goes to them too and also the other members that replied to your post. I think that the at&t Southeast/BellSouth forum has the best FAQs out of all of the Internet Companies here. They need a little bit of updating for the new hardware that has come out and straightening up a bit. Some of the pictures need to be updated because they don't match the hardware since the newer firmware updates have come out and some of the pictures are missing. The only people that can work on the FAQs are the people that work for at&t Southeast/BellSouth and they are busy with the merger and U-verse right now but I'm sure when they get that done they will work on the FAQs here some.
JC, I knew that you could do it if you would just hang in there and keep trying. You just needed a push in the right direction toward the FAQS and some pictures of your hardware to help you out.
Edit: I also wanted to say that I'm sometimes scared to help Anonymous Posters because sometimes they post and run away and don't come back. I have been thinking about not helping Anonymous Posters for awhile now because it sometimes takes me a long time to make a reply and I talk to much which means I have to type a lot and I'm a slow typist because I can only hunt and peck type. I also try real hard to help someone when I reply and that takes longer too. I almost did not help you because you are an Anonymous Poster and I was afraid that you might not come back and I would have wasted all of that time. But I decided to take a chance on you and try to help if I could and it turned out OK. I'm still kind of new to this Internet forum thing, but I'm trying to learn. |

| reply to JC Thank you for all that good info. The way I understand it is all I've to do is the port forwarding and I have two questions. When I go to "Port Range", the "Service Name" would be what, my PC or the program I want to open ports for. And also, which (or where do I get) is the "Base Host Port?" Sorry but I'm a bit confused, so many names and numbers. Thanks again! |

| Toshi, You have the Motorola 2210-02-1002 and it is night and day different from the AT&T Southeast version Motorola 2210-02-1006.
I believe that the Motorola 2210-02-1002 is used in all of the AT&T regions except for the AT&T Southeast region and you would probably be better served to post your question in the AT&T forum that serves your AT&T region.
I see that you have a pacbell.net address so you would probably want to post your question in the AT&T West forum. There also appears to be some knowledgeable members in the AT&T Southwest forum who may able to help you with your Motorola 2210-02-1002.
------------------------------------------------------------
I have once tried to help a poster that was posting a question about a Motorola 2210-02-1002 in the wrong AT&T region forum and there was some question about whether or not the information that I posted was correct.
Due to the fact that I do not own any equipment used in the other AT&T regions or have any knowledge about how things work in the other AT&T regions I have decided to not offer any further recommendations about these things. |
